My landlord says they do not allow pets of any kind.
- The Fair Housing Act protects the right of people with disabilities to have emotional support animals in their homes, even if the landlord’s policy prohibits pets.

My landlord says the emotional support animal letter must be from a doctor.
- According to the Fair Housing ACT, the following people can write an emotional support Animal letter:
- M.D.
- Psychiatrist
- licensed mental health Counselor

My landlord says they will not accept the emotional support animal letter because it was from the internet.
- The Fair Housing ACT does not stipulate how the patient, therapist, or Dr. interact. Teletherapy is wholly accepted and legal. Many people work with their therapist in ways other than the “traditional” face-to-face method. Modalities in which patient/therapist can interact:
- Phone
- Text
- Video
My landlord says I can only have one emotional support animal.
- The Fair Housing ACT does not stipulate the number of emotional support animals you can have.
- If there are more than two, they require:
- The specific task each one assists with be stated in the letter.
My landlord wants you to fill out a form. Does it cost more money?
- All forms associated with your emotional support animal letter and our services are included. For example, landlords, HOAs, and College dorms often require the therapist to complete a “verification form.” This and any other supplemental documentation is included.
My landlord wants the “registration” number.
- The Americans with Disabilities Act and The Fair Housing ACT do not require certification for emotional support animals or service animals.
- There is no official federal or state government registry for assistance animals.
- Organizations claiming to certify or register emotional support animals for a fee are invalid under the ADA.
My landlord refused the letter. What should I do?
- Often, supplemental documentation is required if the landlord refuses the letter even though they legally must accept it.
- In the rare event that a landlord still will not accept the letter, all funds will be refunded.
